Karah Prasad (Aate ka Halwa / Whole wheat halwa)

Sri Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Guru Nanak Gurpurab or Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav , celebrates the birth of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev ji. This is one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism. Apart from Sikhs, Hindus and other followers of Guru Nanak Ji philosophy also celebrate this festival. His birth is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, the full moon day in the month of Kartik. Atta halwa is the Sikh classic ‘karha prashad’. This  dish contains cardamom, raisins, and nuts. Atte  Halwa  is popular North Indian halwa recipe. In Gurudwara aate ka halwa is distributed as prasad and known as Kada Prasad.  It is delicious and equally nutritious. Atta halwa is the healthiest Indian dessert. 

 


 Preparation time: 5 minutes 

Cooking time: 12-15 minutes 

Servings: 6  

Ingredients :

  • Wheat flour (aata) -1 cup
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Desi ghee - 1 cup
  • Hot boiling Water - 1 cup
  • Cardamom Powder - 1/2 tsp *
  • Cashew nut - 4 to 5 *
  • Raisins - 4 to 5 *
  • Dried dates - 3-4*

*Note : We should not add dry fruits & Cardamom if we are preparing Karah prasad and follow same recipe process . 

Method :

  • Heat the ghee in the pan.
  • When ghee is melted then add wheat or atta  sauté on low heat till golden brown.
  • Add suger and mix well
  • Add  hot water and cook and stirring continuously till the mixture thickens.
  • Add green cardamom powder and mix.
  • Then add chopped Cashew nut, Dried dates and raisins and mix.
  • Wheat Flour Halwa is ready. Take it out in a serving bowl and garnish with chopped cashews and raisins.
Note :
  • If ghee is less, add more. Do not reduce ghee as while you add water, it may form lumps.
  • Increases sugar as per your need.
  • You have to roast flour in slow flame to avoid burning.
  • Add only hot water and mix quickly to avoid any lumps.
